Ho Chi Minh Complex

Consists of Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum and his wooden house on stilts, built in the typical style of the Highlands ethnic minorities.

 

Ba Dinh Square

The square where president Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam on September 2, 1945. It is located near the President’s House and opposite the National Assembly.

 

Dong Xuan Market

This market saw fierce between Vietnamese resistance units and the French.

 

Hoa Lo Prison

The Hoa Lo Prison (meaning “fiery furnace”), later known to American prisoners of war as the Hanoi Hilton, was built by the French in 1904, when Vietnam was still part of “Indochina”. The French called it Maison Centrale and used it especially to hold political prisoners. Although it has been largely destroyed during the Vietnam war, a museum occupies the remaining structure.

 

Hoan Kiem Lake

The Lake of the Restored Sword Lake used to be part of the Red River. The legend says that King Le Thai To was on a boat on the lake when a giant turtle came to him and took away his sword that had secured the victory against the Minh aggresors. It is a favourite spot with Hanoians who like to circle the lake endlessly at all time of day and night.

 

Ngoc Son Temple

Ngoc Son Temple is on a tiny islet on Hoan Kiem Lake, connected to the mainland by a bright red bridge (The Huc) constructed in 1885. To the left of the gate stands an obelisk whose top is shaped like a paintbrush, demonstrating the skills of scholars in feudalism society.

 

Van Mieu – Temple of Literature is the first university of Vietnam. Dedicated to Confucian. Founded in 1070 by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong. Well-known for not only historical value but also excellent architecture.
